Michigan 21 at New Jersey 6
1983 Week 6 - Sunday, April 10, 1983
Michigan Panthers(1-4) at New Jersey Generals(1-4)(-3.5)
Attendance: 17,648
EAST RUTHERFORD,NJ(AP) - Herschel Walker ran well for the second straight week, but the Michigan Panthers and the weather rained on the New Jersey Generals' United States Football League parade Sunday.
Walker, who had rushed for 177 yards in the Generals 35-21 victory over Arizona the previous week, charged for 133 yards on 26 carries - 103 coming on 20 carries in the first half - against the Panthers at East Rutherford, N.J.
But the Generals reverted to their losing ways, dropping a 21-6 decision for their fifth defeat in six games.
Linebacker John Corker had six quarterback sacks and Ira Albright fell on a blocked punt in the end zone to offset Walker's rushing performance as Michigan broke a four-game losing streak.
A crowd of 17,648, the Generals' smallest crowd in three home games, watched through a steady rain as the Panthers scored twice in the final 5:19 of the third quarter as they upped their record to 2-4.
The Panthers, who sacked quarterback Bobby Scott eight times boosted their league-leading total to 29. Corker has 15 sacks in the last three games he has played.
